The latest Lost Words news
Over the last couple of years, we have been extremely fortunate with Lost Words: Beyond The Page, to have been nominated for, and won several awards. It’s very humbling, particularly as the game is still in development. It is due for release in the Spring of 2019 and is now available on Steam to follow and wishlist.
We have been working on the game for 3 years full time and it’s now approaching the final stages, which is both scary and exciting.
Our own Mark Backler, has had a busy couple of weeks. Last weekend, saw the second ever Game Anglia conference in Ipswich, which he co-founded, and then he flew up to Dundee to attend the first ever UK Games Fund awards. As an indie game company, Fourth State relies heavily on funding and were lucky enough to get funding from the UK Games Fund and others.
Fourth State were nominated for ‘Deal of the Year’ award which is a “transaction that has moved the needle for the business making the deal”. Lost Words has been picked up by video game publisher Modus Games. It is an amazing opportunity for all involved as it means that development can really be pushed forward and the game can gain more exposure.
The event in Dundee was attended by approximately 200 people from the games industry, who aren’t just developers. They all embark on different journeys and have various roles in the industry. As there are so many new games that have to compete for attention, these awards are great for confirmation that, as a developer, you’re doing all the right things. Interestingly, Dundee has more game developers per head of population than anywhere else in the world, so it’s unsurprising that the first UK Games Fund awards was held there.
Celebrating grassroots gaming is important as it shows the variety that is out there and how they’re different to the bigger games. For Lost Words, it’s an honour to have won another award and provides the team with motivation to carry on working as hard as we can and to make the game the best it can possibly be.
